Hall-of-Fame outfielder Babe Ruth was larger than life both on and off the baseball diamond. His slugging exploits and gregarious personality made him an American hero. However, he wasn’t immune to controversy, including the time he was arrested in New York at gunpoint.
Ruth began his remarkable professional career as a pitcher, becoming a star left-handed hurler for the Boston Red Sox. Although he possessed a good curveball and fastball, his incredible hitting ability was soon valued even more, which led to him spending increased time in the field, until eventually he became a full-time outfielder.
