Why A Famous Beverly Hillbillies Actress Wanted To Have Baseball Legend Sandy Koufax Arrested

The Hall-of-Fame pitcher had a neighbor who may have been his biggest fan

By just about all accounts, Hall-of-Fame left-handed pitcher Sandy Koufax isn’t just one of the best pitchers of all-time, he’s actually a very nice guy. That’s why it was unusual that back in the 1960, actress Nancy Kulp who famously starred in television’s The Beverly Hillbillies, wanted to have him arrested.

The southpaw hurler was pure dominance for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. Once a raw and wild pitcher in his youth, he overhauled himself into a legendary ace with a blazing fastball and a devastating curve. He finished with career totals of a 165–87 record with a 2.76 ERA , and striking out 25.2% (1st) of batters he faced.

Koufax won three Cy Young Awards and an MVP award. Sadly, arthritis forced his premature retirement following the 1966 season when he was just 30. He was voted into the Hall of Fame in 1972; his first year of eligibility.

Just months into his retirement from playing, Koufax was living in Studio City, California when Nancy Kulp, the actress who portrayed Ms. Hathaway on television’s The Beverly Hillbillies as her most memorable role during a 40-year Hollywood…
