The Woman Murdered By The Bed In Which She Slept
In 1904, a couple went to bed not knowing that would be their final night together
Part of what helps us improve as a species is our ability to evolve and adapt. This improves the things that give us difficulty in life, so while each passing year can present new challenges, other things also get just a little bit easier. Sadly, Mrs. A.M. Woodward was not the beneficiary of evolution, as she met her untimely end more than a century ago after being killed by the bed in which she slept.
It was reported on June 2, 1904 that Woodward, the wife of a prominent Minneapolis banker, was killed after the folding bed on which the couple slept violently snapped shut. Both of the Woodwards were trapped, but he was able to force an arm out of his unnatural prison and so vigorously pounded on the floor that it roused other people sleeping within the residence.
While Mr. Woodward eventually emerged unscathed, his wife was not nearly as lucky. She suffered three broken vertebrae in her neck, along with other internal injuries. Despite the best efforts of doctors, she was not able to be saved.
Mr. Woodward was understandably shocked in the aftermath, explaining:
