Movie magic has gotten increasingly realistic as time has gone on. However, even in the early days of movies the material could closely resemble real life, even for those witnessing scenes being recorded on camera. Such was the case of a group of tourists in Colorado in 1904, who stumbled on a rendition of a stage coach robbery for a movie that they thought was real, and proceeded to pull out guns and began shooting at the actors, wounding one in the process.
The October 11, 1904 issue of the Chicago Tribune recounted the bizarre story of a film being shot in Colorado Springs on October 10th when things got out of hand after concerned passersby began shooting at their actors thinking they were actually up to no good.
