The Supreme Court May Have Just Put The Final Nail In The Coffin Of American Democracy

A shocking ruling on presidential immunity opens up a world of possibilities — none of them good

American democracy has been tottering along in recent years, as attempts to subvert and outright overthrow the long standing institution have only become more emboldened. Now comes the recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, which could formally put an end to the political system the United States was founded on and has relied on for nearly 250 years.

On July 1st, the Court ruled by a 6–3 margin that U.S. presidents are immune from criminal prosecution for “official acts” performed during their tenure in office. This immunity does not apply for “unofficial acts.”

The inexplicable ruling essentially legalizes anything a president does while in the White House, so long as they do so in an official capacity.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor was one of three dissenters and lambasted those in the majority for the decision, indicating her “fear for our democracy.” She went on to detail her extreme concern for the path this country is on now that this becomes law of the land:
