The largest State in the United States has a polarizing reputation, but what’s it really like to live there?
Outside perceptions of what it’s like to live in the State of California can vary wildly. From majestic natural features with sunny weather and expansive coastlines, to a crime ridden bureaucratic mess, it seems that nearly everyone has a preconceived notion of what the Golden State is like. However, like anything else, the truth lies somewhere in between. As someone who has called California home for the past five years, I am going to share the real truth; my truth.
After living my entire life in small-town New England, I packed up everything I owned and moved out to the Central Coast of California in the early weeks of 2019 with my future wife (who was a native of the area). Having never experienced anything different, it was one of those life events that typically occur very rarely, but to my surprise transitioned much more easily than I had imagined. As I have found out, California is very different from my former home. Here are some of the observations I have made during my time as a West Coast transplant.
