The Man Who Was Convicted and Sent to Jail On 3 Separate Occasions For Stealing The Same Watch
Crime doesn’t pay, as one man kept finding out over and over again
When people are processed through the judicial system and serve whatever punishments they may be given for their transgressions, the hope is that lessons will be learned to avoid a repeat in the future. That memo appears to have not been read by one man at the turn of last century, who made national headlines, as he was arrested, convicted and sent to prison on three separate occasions for stealing the same watch — from his brother.
In Kalamazoo, Michigan, Herman Schultz was a tormented man around the turn of last century. For whatever reason, he felt compelled to possess a watch that belonged to his brother, Charles. Since the time piece wasn’t forthcoming as a gift, he helped himself to it, over and over again, landing himself in trouble each time.
In 1905, it was reported that Herman had just been arrested and convicted of stealing that same watch for the third time. In each of the three instances, he was found guilty and sentenced to serve 90 days in jail. During his most recent court appearance, it was revealed he had just finished his second 90-day sentence before being caught once again for the same theft.
