The Lost Goat That Helped Discover One Of The Most Historically Important Cultural Finds Ever
Intrepid explorers and adventurers are usually what people think of most when contemplating important discoveries. As the world has continued to evolve and unfold, many of those who have uncovered important information, locations or artifacts are made into timeless heroes. Then there is the case of a missing goat, which was largely responsible for helping make one of the most important cultural and antiquities finds in history.
In 1947, three young Bedouin shepherds named Muhammed edh-Dhib, Jum’a Muhammed and Khalili Musa were dealing with a problem in Judean Desert of the West Bank (Formerly Jordan). One of their goats was missing from their herd, and for the life of them they could not find it. While searching for the elusive animal, they accidentally stumbled on to a fantastical discovery that would make them heroes in the worlds of history and archaeology.
The area where the shepherds were working included a series of caves, which were incredibly remote, but also made excellent potential hiding spots for goats.
