Greatness starts with a single step. It’s rare that somebody is immediately successful out of the gate when they embark on a career path. That is certainly the case for most of Hollywood’s most legendary actors and actresses, who often began their careers with the most humble of roles, including these four stars.

Robert De Niro: The actor’s legendary career has spanned nearly six decades and is still going strong for the 8-year-old. Chief among his heavy hitting resume includes such monumental films as The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull and Killers of the Flower Moon. Over the years, he has been nominated nine times for Academy Awards, and has claimed two Oscars (one for Best Actor (Raging Bull) and one for Best Supporting Actor (The Godfather II)). His first appearance on film dates back all the way to 1965 when he was just 22. He was uncredited as a “Client at the Diner” in the French drama, Three Rooms in Manhattan.
