Weddings are a time of great joy and celebration. Bringing together the love of two individuals who have decided to spend the rest of their lives together is one of those things in life that transcends negativity and strife. Unfortunately, that was not the case in 1904 when a bride left her groom at the altar during their rehearsal vows after revealing she had just married another man only one hour earlier.

It was reported that on August 11, 1904 in Philadelphia, a very unusual and stunning thing happened just before the marriage of Mary Wheeler and John Little. The betrothed couple were at their church going through the trial run of their upcoming wedding ceremony when the bride to be dropped an unfathomable shock. In the midst of reciting her vows, she stopped and yelled:

“I just can’t go on with this farce, I’ve just been married to another man.”

She then broke into uncontrollable sobs. It was determined that not only had she been married, but those nuptials had happened just an hour prior to her outburst.
