Tesla Still King As American EV Sales Surged In 2022 Despite Declining Overall Auto Numbers
The electric vehicle market appears to be very strong and growing
In spite of a rather overall tepid automobile market in the United States last year, electric vehicle sales surged to new highs. Although new companies have been joining the EV space with each passing month, leader Tesla remained well ahead of the pack, manufacturing more electric vehicles than all others combined in 2022, according to a new report.
Counterpoint’s Abhik Mukherjee recently reported on exciting new American sales figures of EVs from 2022, gleaned from their Global Passenger Electric Vehicle Model Sales Tracker. The findings included:
Passenger EV sales in the United States increased 54.5% year-over year from 2021.
In particular, American battery EV sales really exploded, growing by nearly 70% from the prior year, and representing better than 80% of all EV sales in all of 2022.
Electric vehicles accounted for 7% of American passenger vehicle sales in 2022.
