Tesla Co-Founder Sets Baseline On How Long EV Batteries Should Last
If this hypotheses is correct, EV owners should breathe easy about the life of their vehicles
Perhaps the biggest hurdles when it comes to customers contemplating purchasing an electric vehicle are how much range it has and how long the battery is expected to last. After so many years of simply having to read a gas gauge, drivers want the peace of mind of knowing what to expect when they’re out on the road. Tesla co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer J.B. Straubel appears to have answered one of those pressing questions with his recent assertions on what should be expected for typical EV battery life.
Straubel was an early leader at Tesla, co-founding the technology giant and spending 15 years as their CTO before moving to an exclusively advisory role in 2019. He has also pursued other interests, founding and becoming the CEO of Redwood Materials, Inc., which specializes in recycling e-waste and lithium-ion batteries.
