The sinking of the ocean liner Titanic in 1912 was one of the most shocking events in human history. Deemed to be unsinkable, it went to the bottom of the ocean in the midst of its maiden voyage, taking more than 1,500 lives with it. Since that time, it has remained a topic of great interest in the world of entertainment, with movies and television shows depicting the saga at length. Titanic, released in 1997 is considered the seminal film on the tragedy, but was hardly the first. That honor belongs to Saved from the Titanic, which premiered just 30 days after the sinking, and starred an actress named Dorothy Gibson, who actually survived the ordeal.

Released on May 14, 1912, a mere month after the Titanic sank, Saved from the Titanic was a 10-minute film portraying the terror of the doomed ship. At the time, movies of such length were common, as feature films were not yet the norm and cinema was still in its early days.
