Lucid Motors CEO Claims His Company Now Has Superior Technology to Tesla
The EV wars continue, as more manufacturers keep working to unthrone Tesla
Tesla (TSLA) has long been considered the front-running giant in the electric vehicle space. Able to incorporate a litany of developed components along with scaled production and pricing years ahead of competitors, it appears to have jumped out to an insurmountable lead in their sector. However, Lucid Motors (LCID) CEO, Peter Rawlinson, recently claimed that his company has grown in some ways in leaps and bounds and is now ahead of Tesla in technology by “a number of years.”
The luxury EVs currently produced by Lucid Motors have been slow going. After producing all of 8,428 vehicles in 2023, they did significantly up it to 6,001 in Q1 of 2024, marking a strong 37% growth year-over-year. However, that all pales in comparison to the 1.83 million cars Tesla built in 2023, with 1.81 million finding their way to customers.
Although the numbers certainly haven’t shifted their way, Lucid’s leader, Rawlinson, recently spoke confidently about how he believes his company has overtaken the giant in their industry in key ways.
