Caitlin Clark has been one of the most buzzworthy figures in the news over recent months, let alone sports. The professional basketball player drew national attention during her tenure playing for the University of Iowa, which has only exploded since she joined the Indiana Fever of the WNBA as a rookie earlier this year. There has been a firestorm in recent days after it was revealed that she was not initially included on the U.S. Women’s Basketball team that plays later this summer in Paris — shocking many who see her as the face of the sport. However, the strong possibility exists that this is all nothing more than a marketing ploy that will play out further in the coming weeks.

To begin with, everything that I have said and will go on to say on this matter is purely my opinion. I have no sources or inside information that has informed my stance. This is a conspiracy theory of the first order, and one that will be absolutely intriguing to see if it plays out. Bear with me and indulge my examination of possible intrigue.
