How Nikola Tesla Tricked A Crowd Into Thinking They Moved Boats With Their Minds
The famous inventor decided to have a bit of fun when he showed off his new remote control invention for the first time
Nikola Tesla remains one of the brightest minds the world has ever seen. A brilliant inventor and engineer, he is responsible for some of the greatest discoveries and research that remain very relevant to society today. He even secretly previewed one of his inventions to a large crowd by tricking them into thinking they were moving a toy boat across water by using their minds.
Born in Serbia in 1856 to a priest and a homemaker, Tesla showed early on that he had a photographic memory. As a student, he was keenly skilled in science and math, in addition to speaking eight languages. There were few math equations he couldn’t solve by calculating them in his head, leading his teachers to sometimes erroneously suspect him of cheating.
By the time he was a young man, Tesla got a job in Paris working for the Continental Edison Company. He was fascinated by the study of electricity, so it was a uniquely good fit for him.
