How 2 Women Dueling With Pistols Killed An Innocent Man

In 1906 Kentucky, an argument that erupoted on a street sidewalk quickly turned deadly

There is no more abrupt way to elevate an argument then to have it turn into a violent duel. Fortunately, these no longer occur, but in years past it was a drastic course of action some people took to try and resolve differences. Although dueling is typically associated as a masculine activity, it has never been exclusive to men. During one duel with pistols between two women around the turn of last century, they failed to harm each other but managed to kill an innocent bystander who was just trying to play some pool.

In 1906 Middleboro, Kentucky, Alice Moore and Lucy Tucker, two local married women, did not like each other. The source of their mutual disdain was unclear but it was rumored that they had been part of a love triangle that resulted in them being at each other’s throats.

On March 6th, the tensions boiled over when the two women encountered each other outside of Josh Burdett’s saloon. A verbal altercation quickly escalated, and they each pulled a pistol on the other. Tucker let off the first shot, and after the third reverberation, Moore took tail, running down the street. Although she later found holes in her clothing from precariously close…
