French Fry Oil Aids Polestar in Landmark Australian Desert Crossing

The emerging EV manufacturer participated in a revolutionary desert crossing with the help of a newly invented charging station

In the early days of various different forms of transportation, news stories regularly appeared touting new accomplishments and barriers being broken. That is currently the case for electric vehicles, including the recent triumph of Polestar, which just had one of their vehicles drive through the expanses of a previously thought to be impassable Australian desert for Evs — all done with the help of french fry oil.

Alex Misoyannis of Drive reported that a Polestar 2 sedan recently crossed a 700 KM portion of the Nullabor Plain, a massive stretch of desert in southern Australia. The rugged and isolated area was previously believed to be un-crossable for EVs due to the constraints of vehicle battery range and the lack of available charging stations. However, this milestone was able to be achieved by Polestar thanks to the ingenuity of a retired engineer named Jon Edwards, who invented a unique fast charger called BiØfil .
