It’s not really debatable that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a big personality that is often on widespread public display. Recent data suggests that may be working against the mammoth company when it comes to luring new buyers of their popular electric vehicles.

Hyunjoo Jin and Nick Carey of Reuters report that results from a survey conducted by Caliber, a market intelligence firm, indicates that Tesla is facing some declining numbers in positive potential customer metrics when it comes to whether they might consider purchasing one of their vehicles in the future, which can be traced back to Musk.

Although Tesla has been posting strong sales numbers until today’s Q1 results for 2024, which were expected to disappoint, but came even lower than those tempered hopes. That’s not good news, especially on the heels of the recent survey.

Caliber found that Tesla’s consideration score (“Consumer responses to questions on whether they like/trust Tesla and would consider buying one.”) fell from an all-time high of 70 in late 2021 all the way to 31% in February of this year.
