Coincidence? Perhaps. Extremely strange? Absolutely.

During the course of American history there have been many people and events that have been strange and unexpected. However, some are so bizarre that it’s hard to fathom how they can be true… But they are.

The inventor of the Pringles chip canister is buried in one: Fredric Baur, a former organic chemist and food storage scientist, gained his claim to fame by designing and patenting the iconic Pringles’ tubular can. After he passed away in 2008 at the age of 89, his children honored his wishes by having some of his ashes buried in one of his creations, which was later confirmed to be Original flavor.

Founding father Gouveneur Morris died of a self-inflicted penis injury: Among his lifetime accomplishments, Morris was a signer of the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation. The New Yorker was also instrumental in planning the Erie Canal and the street layouts in Manhattan. He passed away in 1816 at the age of 64 after causing serious internal injuries following his attempt to clear a urinary tract blockage by inserting piece of whale bone in his penis. It’s believed that the original problem stemmed from a UTI, which would have been likely easily treatable with modern medicine.
