Currently on their 46th president, the United States has seen a wide array of office holders over the years. These world leaders may be powerful and solemn, but they are also human like everyone else. Here are four bizarre facts about former presidents that are almost too strange to be true.

Thomas Jefferson Vandalized William Shakespeare’s Home: Jefferson was the third president, serving between 1801–1809. He had a reputation as a scholar, interested in reading whatever he could get his hands on, and traveling much more extensively than the average person of his generation.

One of the voyages Jefferson took was to England in 1786 with John Adams, who later became the second president. Their travels took them to Stratford-Upon-Avon, the home of legendary playwright William Shakespeare, who had died 170 years previously. Jefferson was a huge fan of the writer and accordingly proceeded to act as a fan boy, as he and the rest of his party examined the humble abode of the famous bard.
